Two Suicide Bombers Foiled at the National Constituent Assembly (Mogadishu: August 1, 2012) The Government condemns two suicide bombers that attempt to explode the venue of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA). The suicide bombers were successfully thwarted at the first checkpoint when security forces shot them while an officer sustained a minor injury from the explosions. The suicide bombers resisted to be screened, defying security orders before they run towards the conference venue. The attack comes after Al Qaeda terror group of Al Shabaab threatened the National Constituent Assembly, but the government continues to strengthen the security of the capital to ensure the safety of hundreds of delegates from across the country. The Minister of Information, Abdulkadir Hussein Mohamed, praised the heroic efforts of the security forces that foiled the attack and saved lives. “The soldiers that prevented the suicide bombers from entering NCA venue have shown an exemplary act of heroism and great judgment that saved the lives of hundreds of delegates” said Minister Mohamed. However, the security forces are investigating the identity of the suicide bombers.
