Suspected terrorists in custody after series of night raids in the capital

(Mogadishu-14th July 2012) A joint force comprising the TFG Police force, the National Security Agency (NSA), and the Somali National Army last week cordoned off suspected terrorist hideouts in several neighborhoods as part of series of night raids in the capital city of Mogadishu. A total 89 Al Shabaab terrorist suspects were arrested and remain in custody.

The objective of the raid was to weed out the remnants of the Al Qaeda-affiliated terror group, in the wake of numerous roadmap activities being held in Mogadishu that will pave the way for the return of permanent and representative government.

Also, in Balad town, the security forces have launched massive search operations that target key leaders of Al Qaeda terror network who hide in localities around Bal’ad.

The capital has been relatively peaceful following Al Shabaab’s defeat and withdrawal in last August. Recently, the security forces foiled roadside bombing, including grenade attacks in the capital. The government will continue the operations until all security threats are
eliminated.
