Government troops eject Al-Qaeda from Afgoye Corridor
The Somali troops with support from African Union launched a major attack today on the terrorist group’s last stronghold in the outskirts of Mogadishu, including the Afgoye corridor. The remnants of Al-Qaeda fled the area, as residents welcomed government troops.
The Minister of Information, Posts and Telecommunications, Abdulkadir Hussein Mohamed “Jahweyn”, remarked on the gains made by the government and praised the sacrifices of the armed forces and allies from the African Union Mission in Somalia. “Our goal remains the same; expel terrorists and destroy their safe havens in Somalia” said Minister Mohamed.
“The government has weakened Al-Qaeda and its Al-Shabaab affiliate, downgrading its capability to stage attacks against the government or our allies” added the Minister.
A senior military official confirmed progress on executing today’s operation successfully. The troops have cleared land mines throughout the districts that were brought in government fold.
As part of a broader campaign against Al-Qaeda, the government will continue its assault on the terrorist groups until they are eliminated and denied opportunities to regroup.
The Somali people rejected the draconian impositions of Al-Qaeda and expressed support for their government to help defeat Shabaab militants.

القوات الحكومية تطرد تنظيم القاعدة من ممر أفغوي الإستراتيجي
(مقديشو، 22 مايو 2012) شنت اليوم القوات الصومالية وبدعم من قوات الاتحاد الإفريقي في الصومال، هجوما كبيرا على المعقل الأخير للمليشيات الإرهابية في ضواحي مقديشو وايضا على ممر أفجوي الإستراتيجي، حيث فرت مليشيات تنظيم القاعدة من تلك المنطقة واستعادتها القوات الصومالية مع ترحيب حار من قبل الآهالي للقوات الحكومية .
وعلق وزير الإعلام والبريد والاتصالات معالي عبدالقادر حسين محمد (جاهوين) على المكاسب التي حققتها الحكومة مشيدا على تضحيات القوات المسلحة وحلفائها من بعثة الاتحاد الأفريقي في الصومال. قائلا "هدفنا لا يزال هو نفسه : طرد الارهابيين وتدمير ملاذاتهم الآمنة في الصومال ".
وأضاف الوزير "لقد أضعفت الحكومة الصومالية تنظيم القاعدة وفرعها في الصومال -حركة الشباب-، حيث أضعفت مستوى قدرتها على الهجمات ضد الحكومة أو حلفائنا "
وأكد مسؤول عسكري كبير على التقدم ونجاح عملية الهجوم اليوم . وقد قامت القوات الحكومية بجانب العملية بنزع الألغام الأرضية من جميع أنحاء المناطق المحررة.
وكجزء من حملة أوسع ضد تنظيم القاعدة، فإن الحكومة الصومالية ستواصل هجومها على المليشيات الإرهابية حتى يتم القضاء عليها وتقويض فرصتهم لاعادة تجميع صفوفهم مرة أخرى .
والجدير بالذكر أن الشعب الصومالي يرفض الإملاءات الصارمة من تنظيم القاعدة وأعرب عن تأييده للحكومة حول سعيها لهزيمة مليشيات حركة الشباب المتطرفة.
