(Mogadishu, Somalia, October, 16, 2012) The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia H. E Hassan Sh. Mohamud met with a high level delegation led by the IGAD Secretary General Mahbub Moalim at his office in Villa Somalia today. The President and IGAD Secretary General discussed various of issues including current affairs, the success of the political process, security improvement in the country and the role of regional bodies in assisting the Somalia Government.

The Secretary General of IGAD assured the President of IGAD’s unwavering support to the Somali Government. The President expressed his appreciation to IGAD in assisting the Somali Government and urged IGAD and other regional entities to continue that support. “As a member state, we value the relationship and the cooperation between the Somali Government and Intergovernmental Authority on Development; we work together on many fronts in dealing with range of issues” said President Mohamud.

The Secretary General briefed the President on recent meetings held in Nairobi, Kenya which focused on improving security in recently liberated areas and local administrations. President Mohamud and Secretary General Moalim agreed it is the responsibility of the Somali Government to establish local administrations.
